*class cancelledl* Explore your inner artistic self in this joyful class where you will paint a beautiful camellia from Gamble Garden using watercolors and vibrant brush strokes. We will do pencil sketching to create the base composition for our painting. For the beginner, trace an exisiting drawing so you can jump into watercoloring right away. For the adventurous one, there will be camellias to do observational drawing. See demonstrations of a few watercolor techniques, from simple flat wash to wet-on-wet. Learn how to mix paints to get the desired color. Explore how to layer colors to achieve the right tonal impact. Practice and perfect your shading techniques. All class supplies provided. No prior experience required. Ideal for ages 6+.
To celebrate Spring at Gamble Garden, renowned Bay Area photographer, Vivian Cromwell, will conduct a free 15-minute family photo session for each of the first eight students who enroll in this class. Abby C., a rising artist and Palo Alto resident, is a teaching assistant at Palo Alto Art Center. She received five years training in drawing, painting and sculpture. She is the founder of artsprout.org, a company offering art instruction to children. Abby loves her dog, Yuki, and all things Japanese. She currently attends Palo Alto High School.
Tessa B. loves art in all its forms. She is a summer teaching assistant at the Sonoma Community Center where she helps develop art projects for children. She enjoys playing tennis and badminton, plus giving extemporaneous speeches. Tessa currently attends Palo Alto High School.
