1985-2025
In 2025, Elizabeth F. Gamble Garden celebrates its 40th anniversary! This cherished garden center became a reality in May 1985, when the Palo Alto City Council approved the transformation of the Elizabeth Gamble estate into a community garden. The City inherited the property following Miss Gamble’s passing in 1981, and the Garden Club of Palo Alto stepped forward to create an independent, volunteer-led 501(c)(3) organization to steward the estate.
For nearly 40 years, this 2.3-acre property has been open to the public, offering an oasis of beauty and tranquility. Gamble Garden has become a beloved community resource, providing horticultural education, inspiration, and enjoyment to all who visit.
Throughout the year, we will be commemorating Gamble Garden’s 40th anniversary with special exhibits, member events, and community events. Stay tuned for more information!
The Gamble Timeline
As part of our 40th-anniversary celebration, Gamble Garden is proud to present a year-long exhibit exploring the property's rich history, its role in the community, and the many joys it has brought over the decades.
The green lattice fence near the Lath House now features The Gamble Timeline—a series of posters showcasing key moments and milestones in Gamble Garden’s journey. Each month, the display will change, offering visitors fresh opportunities to learn something new about our history with every visit.
